Major emergencies can overwhelm the abilities of first responders, especially during the first 12 to 72 hours. Volunteers can have an important impact on how much aid can be given during this time.  Communities often need volunteers to fill in the gaps of their emergency response plans and to “boost” local response efforts.

The Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department (NNPHD) has a volunteer sign up system. NNPHD will collect and store names, phone numbers, and email addresses for any person who would like to help with response and recovery during and after a major public health emergency. Based on the information collected from each volunteer, public health officials will be able to select people to fill specific volunteer roles needed in an emergency.  Any personal contact information shared will be kept private and confidential.

During an emergency, public health officials will make a list of volunteers who may be called based on the information they have given.  Those contacted will be given a location to meet and will be given the choice to accept or decline the invitation.  Registering as a volunteer does not bind you to helping when called. However, by registering you may be called once-in-a-while to make sure your contact information is up-to-date and to make sure you are still available to volunteer.

Please fill out the form and then click “submit” at the bottom of the form to send your information to the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department Emergency Response Coordinator.
