About Environmental Health
Environmental health focuses on the ways our surroundings can affect our health. Private Well Testing
Nebraska’s rural residents often depend on private wells for drinking water. Private wells are not regulated by the EPA or state public water systems, so regular testing is the homeowner’s responsibility. We recommend testing your well water annually for:
- Bacteria (coliform) — especially after flooding or heavy rainfall
- Nitrates — important if you have infants or are pregnant
- pH and hardness
- Pesticides if you are in an agricultural area
Water test kits and sampling instructions are available at our office. Results are typically returned within 5–7 business days.
