Oral Health Care and Education

Oral Health Care and Education

NNPHD has programs that provide dental care and education for all ages.  We visit assisted living facilitates, and schools in Cedar, Dixon, Thurston, and Wayne counties. Participating schools are visited twice and each student is provided with a dental screening, teeth cleaning, fluoride and dental kit.

The Creating New Smiles* works with preschools and child care centers to provide oral health information and fluoride to children 0-5 years and their families who want to participate.  There is no charge for the services provided.  You and your child will be able to visit with a  Public Health Dental Hygienist, who will:

  • Talk with your family about good brushing habits.
  • Screen you and your child’s mouths for any problems.
  • Put a fluoride varnish on you and your child’s teeth to prevent tooth decay.
  • Dental sealants, a protective coating that is painted onto the surfaces of teeth to protect them from cavities. ;

*Supported through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services
